A meeting was held at the Association’s headquarters where Karim Akhavan Akbari, Chairman of the Board, and Majidreza Khaki, Secretary of the Association, hosted Trirong Wan-Ar-Ree, Economic Counselor of Thailand in Iran, along with his deputies, Hayat Vahedizarj and Viriya KetSomboon. The session had been requested by the Royal Thai Embassy in Iran.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman of the Association welcomed the Thai delegation and provided an overview of the Association’s establishment, its membership base, and the significant share its members hold in the Iranian market. He also elaborated on the general trend of imports from various countries into Iran and highlighted the existing opportunities in this sector.

Subsequently, Majidreza Khaki, Secretary General of the Association, outlined the prerequisites for Thai rice to enter the Iranian market. He emphasized that the primary condition for Thai traders to engage in this market is the acceptance of Iran’s specific requirements, particularly regarding financial transactions, which have been affected by international sanctions.

Wan-Ar-Ree then pointed to Thailand’s strong production capacity, stating: “Thailand produces around 20 million tons of rice annually, half of which is exported.” He also extended an official invitation to the Association’s members to participate in the TIFEX Exhibition.

It was further agreed that a second meeting will soon be held online between Iranian and Thai traders.

In conclusion, Karim Akhavan Akbari stressed that Thai rice, given its quality and competitiveness, holds significant potential for development in the Iranian market. The meeting ended on a constructive note, with both sides expressing optimism about expanding future cooperation.
